August 16th Misogi Training in Kananaskis Country

Reminder: Calgary Aikikai will have Misogi training for adults on August 16th. This will consist of a short hike of about 2km to a waterfall in Kananaskis Country near Engadine Lodge. Time will be spent in the waterfall testing the spirit and rejuvenating the body. The “Misogi” element is an adult activity but children can join the hike with parents.

  • Masa Kokoro Philosophy


    Learn the way of harmony in everyday living through the Japanese Martial Art of Aikido. Stretch your mind power to acquire a calm spirit and enhanced metal focus, to be at one with the universe. It places emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement. Use of the wooden staff (jo), the wooden sword (bokken), and the wooden knife (tanto) are included along with various hand techniques for blending with the opponent’s attack method.

  • Preventing Injuries


    Aikido is considered as the best martial art for preventing injuries. Since it inherits the power of Katachi training, Aikido prevents injuries in the best possible way. It comprises of various moves that can make the aikidoka win without getting injured nor hurting the opponent.

  • What is Aikido?


    This noncompetitive Japanese martial art aims to harmonize energy with that of a partner or opponent in order to achieve both physical and emotional mastery through peaceful resolution. Aikido literally means the path to the coordination of body, mind, and spirit. Aikido is a defensive system of continuous, circular motions, combining many of the fluid, dance-like movements of t’ai chi along with more subtle, stylized techniques. When practiced properly, successful defense is achieved through minimal action. Originally seen as a combination of religion and martial arts, aikido was created by Morehei Ueshiba in the early twentieth century.

  • Aikido Pros


    Aikido is a good, viable self-defense. It is probably better for self-defense than any of the empty-hand martial arts that are commonplace including TKD, karate, hapkido, jujitsu, and judo. It has been reported that some old-school judo teachers have told their students that for real self-defense do aikido but for sport do judo.
